Victoria & Maya
Photographing Victoria
and Maya at their home in the Moorings of Islamorada
was simply a pleasure. Maya is adorable, adventurous,
fun and like her mother has an incredible smile. It
is always wonderful to see Arthur, who truly looks
more like a bear than a dog in these images. Maya and
Arthur have a beautiful and unique relationship, and
it is something special to witness. I could have
spent all day chasing Maya around their beautiful
property, until next time...
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and are surrounded by those you love. Enjoy!

The Frey Family

Well, I just couldn't
wait 'til Monday to post this session with the Frey
family, so here it is! I had such a blast with Jack
and his wonderful parents shooting this session....
Jack is nearing two years old and they are expecting
a baby girl in February! I have known Jack for almost
a year now and his is such an adorable, happy baby.
He had a great time running all over the beach
(though he is still not 100% sure that one can really
run or walk quickly in beach sand). We had such
gorgeous weather and I can't wait to take pictures
when Jack's new little sister arrives...
I'm pretty sure he could negotiate world peace with that face...

and yes, Jack is wearing True Religion jeans... so cute!

Maria & Enrique, Married!
Nov/18/09 04:18 PM Filed under: Weddings
The weather for Maria
and Enrique's wedding was absolutely amazing. They
had the light, the temperature and bright blue sky
that wedding dreams are made of. Their flawless day
continued with a beautiful church ceremony and
reception at the one and only Pierre's. Maria looked amazing and I
absolutely loved her simple pink bouquet. Maria
and Enrique's guests were also treated to a late
night surprise (keep reading to find out!).

I loved her wedding colors, and stunning combination.

Sometimes walking in a wedding dress can be hard..... and funny.

Pierre's has to be one of the most elegant and relaxing spots on the planet.

Surprise! Maria had a surprise performance by Michael Jackson (ok fine, an impersonator...), he was amazing! So much fun!

Your Wedding & Lighting
Nov/16/09 09:29 AM Filed under: Weddings
As brides we often
obsess over the colors, flowers, linens, and every
little detail that helps create the ambiance that we
want at our wedding. While brides are getting more
and more creative and are creating more beautiful
events than ever, there is one element so many
overlook... LIGHTING! Every part of your wedding day
is influenced by the light and planning for it and
making the best decisions will ensure you get the
beautiful images and atmosphere you are dreaming of.
First comes location selection. When visiting any venue notice the light and consider how it will be during your event. For getting ready, ideally select a tidy room with lots of large windows and space for you and your bridesmaids.
For the ceremony, if it is outdoors the perfect location is well lit with lots of open shade. Many of my keys weddings are sunset ceremonies, which are gorgeous, however then you must plan to do portraits beforehand as there will be no light after the ceremony to shoot in. Remember that on a beach or location without lights, we can use flashes to light you, but the landscape will be lost. Outdoors you also want to avoid having a ceremony in the middle of the day when light is the harshest and least flattering. Avoid dark, uneven shadows that will fall on your faces, try to position yourselves where you will be in even light.
If you are planning an indoor ceremony, seek out a location with windows and ambient light.
The reception, this is where lighting is sooo important! After the sun goes down you are dependent on the lighting of the venue that you select. It is very important to visit your venue when it is dark and see what you will be working with. Lighting can set the mood for your venue and has a dramatic influence in the quality of your reception photographs.
Uplighting is a wonderful option for any venue. With uplighting you can create a completely different ambiance for your space relatively affordably. Often your band or DJ will offer this service (you should inquire), however you can also hire a lighting crew to get even more creative. Uplyte is a great one here in South Florida.
If you cannot afford to add uplighting consider candles, lantern or string lights. In my opinion you can never have too many candles and they are always romantic and beautiful. You can find bundles of small votives online very affordably. Lanterns can be rented from your florist or a rental company and are wonderful outdoors or in. If wind is a concern consider LED candles with no flame. All will help create a unique atmosphere and beautiful images. Enjoy!

Lauren & Roel, Married!!
Nov/12/09 06:37 AM Filed under: Weddings
Last
weekend Lauren and Roel said 'I Do' at
Pierre's of
Islamorada in the Florida Keys, bringing together
their families from New York and Belgium. Lauren
and Roel met in Indonesia, have traveled the world
together, and now Roel has moved to New York City
with Lauren. Though we normally have gorgeous
weather here in Florida, Saturday was slightly
different with high winds and dark skies. This
didn't stop them from having a heartfelt beach
ceremony or from enjoying all the company that had
joined them from around the world. Lauren and Roel
offered their guests flip flops as they took to
the beach, and later calligraphed compasses guided
them to their seating. The bridal party looked
wonderful, the girls wore JCrew and the
men in khaki suits. Congrats to Lauren & Roel!

This morning I did my
usual rounds of my favorite blogs, and while checking
out what was going on in the world of
Style Me Pretty I saw this trailer for
The Way We Get By, and had to share it with you.
I truly appreciate each and every man and woman
that serves our country. I hope you all have a
wonderful Veterans Day, and thank you to all our
troops!

Little Connor & Co..
Last week I headed down
to the Moorings (my favorite!) to shoot a former
bride and groom, Alison and Rick, and their little pile of love,
Connor. You may remember Connor, as I shot him
when he was only a week old, which you can
see here. He has already gotten sooo
much bigger and even cuter, (who knew that was
possible!!). It was a bittersweet portrait session
as Alison, Rick and Connor were moving to Missouri
the next day.... Though I will miss seeing them
each time I am in the keys, I am very excited for
them as they move their new family to a new place
and a new home. I can't wait to watch and document
as their family continues to grow. Congrats on the
big move! We'll miss you!
Here is Alison and Kari with another pile of love, Arthur. Arthur is quite famous at the Moorings and though he has grown older and lost function of his hind legs, he continues to swims daily in the ocean and even walks the property with the help of a doggy wheelchair. He has a special place in so many people's hearts.

The happy family.

Love the shot on the left.. I think they were supposed to kiss and ended there... Connor was obviously bored with the portraits.
The boys
And a little holiday cheer...
