During quarantine I shared some of my favorite books that have helped me get through that uncertain season, and today I’m sharing my very favorites from the whole year. I’ll also fill you in on what’s on my holiday reading list as I head into a little break from the normal routine. The collection below represents the best books of 2020 from my personal reading list this year.
I dove into 2020 with a pile of books and an ambitious reading plan. I usually read multiple books at once (seems like my MO with most things!) and in January alone I read six books. And goodness, I’m glad I started the year diving into the wisdom of others because I sure needed it as 2020 unfolded.
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
— Joseph Addison
The wisdom, shared experience and inspiration that books bring me is invaluable. Without fail, if I deviate from my reading routine and find myself staring more at screens than pages, I will start to feel a bit ‘off.’ When I come back to books, my reading routine and the quiet they bring, it always has me feeling my best.
Without further ado, my best books of 2020…
UNTAMED BY GLENNON DOYLE
I shared this in my quarantine roundup but I have to mention it again, as it was one of the most powerful books I’ve read, ever. I will be putting it on my list to re-read in 2021. Once I read Untamed, I dove into the Glennon Doyle rabbit hole and read all three of her books. My recommendation is to start at the beginning and read Love Warrior, Carry On, Warrior and then Untamed.
Nature’s Best Hope by Douglas W. Tallamy
This book was perfectly timed with quarantine. It addresses the little things we can do, with the small amount of space we all have, to impact nature and to support it. I found it fascinating, and it even lead us to building a butterfly garden! I can’t recommend it enough if you have a balcony, yard or any green space. You can make a difference.
You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero
I shared another Jen Sincero book in last’s year list, You are a Badass at Making Money, and I couldn’t help but share another one of her books that is a favorite of mine. If 2020 has left you uninspired and, well, downright worn out, then this is the kick in the pants you need to jumpstart 2021. There is no denying it, our thoughts are powerful. And this book helps to ensure your thoughts are really helping you get where you want to go.
Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo
Once again, a perfect read to jumpstart you into 2021 and wash off any negativity that 2020 might have left in you. It’s an easy read, full of great insights. A perfect pick for reading by the fireplace this holiday season.
The Vision Driven Leader by Michael Hyatt
I get it, you are likely more of a solopreneur and if I asked you if you were a leader, you might not jump at the answer of ‘yes.’ I’m here to remind you that no matter how micro your business might seem, you are a leader. A leader for your clients, for your business, and for your life! This book helps you focus your efforts and ensure you’re asking the right questions.
Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey
So—full disclosure—I haven’t read this yet, but I plan too asap! I had to include it in my best books of 2020 because I bought it for Chad and, I kid you not, in our fifteen years together (trust me, I’ve bought him a lot of books!) it’s the first one that he dove into and finished in a week. He loved it that much and I can’t wait to read it as well. It just might be that perfect stocking stuffer!

What’s on my holiday reading list? Well, I’m currently reading Make Life Beautiful by Shea McGee and Syd McGee—and Contagious: Why Things Catch On by Jonah Berger. Next in line is Animal Speak by Ted Andrews, Conscious Living and The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks, The Art of Giving by Charles Bronfman and Jeffrey Soloman, A Promised Land by Barack Obama and My Own Words by Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Let’s just say, I have some page turning to do!

've spent the past decade capturing love and chasing beauty across the globe, and I believe every story like yours is different and special, and deserves to be told exceptionally.
Drawing on years of experience in the fashion and editorial photography industry, my photographs are graceful, honest and boldly natural, while completely intentional. Whether it’s the opportunity to narrate the retelling of once-in-a-lifetime wedding days, or the ability to communicate issues of global importance, or all the stories in between, I look at photography as the method by which I get to leave the world a little better than I found it.
What we’ve spent the last decade learning as we built our business, we share with up-and-coming, soul-driven photographers who want to change the world with their work.
