“Argue For Your Limitations And You Get To Keep Them.” — Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear
As an artist in business, it can be tempting to limit my creativity solely to the work that comes my way. And while that work is utterly fulfilling and creative in nature, it doesn’t always allow me to push the boundaries of my comfort zone or to take the risks that will stretch me as an artist.
In order to grow as an artist, I make personal space to create—space without my normal parameters or limitations on what’s possible.
One of my favorite fashion stylists recently moved to my hometown of Miami. It was the perfect opportunity for Micaela Erlanger and myself to flex our creativity together and to collaborate on a personal project.
So we rounded up a stellar creative team of artists to bring a vision to life.
The concept of this editorial shoot was: boldness. While I would happily live in a land of neutral pastels and soft hues indefinitely, I was drawn to the challenge of direct light, boldly colored designer fashion and a strong model to bring this concept to life.
Micaela curated a stunning selection of couture looks to work with. We allowed ourselves to play and explore inside this idea of boldness, and the final result was a jewel-toned rainbow of energy, light and power. Working with simple backdrops and voluminous fashion, we were able to create striking images that declared the strength of this moment in time.
Embracing bold shape and color feels like the appropriate way to reestablish our footing, find our light and forge into a new future.
But if we hadn’t been willing to risk failure, or to try something new, we would never have gotten there. If I had decided that I can only shoot neutrals in soft light, I would never have stepped into the direct sun of this shoot and been willing to find out what was there.
As artists and creators, we have to hold our beliefs lightly. Challenge the limitations we put on ourselves. Try something different. Take risks.
We all have room to push ourselves to the edge of our growth—creatively, personally, and in our businesses.
Maybe it starts with writing down your vision. Maybe it starts with revisiting and reimagining that old idea.
Or maybe, it just starts with putting on a brightly colored gown—its mesmerizing hue daring you to dream a dream that really could come true.
Be inspired by our bold, designer rainbow below.
“CREATIVITY IS SACRED, AND IT IS NOT SACRED. WHAT WE MAKE MATTERS ENORMOUSLY, AND IT DOESN’T MATTER AT ALL. WE TOIL ALONE, AND WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY SPIRITS. WE ARE TERRIFIED, AND WE ARE BRAVE. ART IS A CRUSHING CHORE AND A WONDERFUL PRIVILEGE. ONLY WHEN WE ARE AT OUR MOST PLAYFUL CAN DIVINITY FINALLY GET SERIOUS WITH US. MAKE SPACE FOR ALL THESE PARADOXES TO BE EQUALLY TRUE INSIDE YOUR SOUL, AND I PROMISE—YOU CAN MAKE ANYTHING.”

Craving bold fashion for the modern bride?
Bold bridal fashion is transformed with Bella Belle Bridal Shoes.
've spent the past decade capturing love and chasing beauty across the globe, and I believe every story like yours is different and special, and deserves to be told exceptionally.
Drawing on years of experience in the fashion and editorial photography industry, my photographs are graceful, honest and boldly natural, while completely intentional. Whether it’s the opportunity to narrate the retelling of once-in-a-lifetime wedding days, or the ability to communicate issues of global importance, or all the stories in between, I look at photography as the method by which I get to leave the world a little better than I found it.
What we’ve spent the last decade learning as we built our business, we share with up-and-coming, soul-driven photographers who want to change the world with their work.
