Let me start by saying that the Château de Fonscolombe is just a stunningly-beautiful hotel. As a beautifully restored castle, it makes for a spectacular destination for a wedding or getaway. It’s set in the heart of Provence, and is wonderfully hidden away among vineyards and hills. And it gives you the opportunity to experience Provence at its very best.
Historically, the Château belonged to two large families, and it’s easy to see why they loved it so much. Because the hotel is designed as one large house, you can feel the history in every room and salon.
We had the pleasure of staying there while shooting at the nearby Chateau de la Gaude (also incredible). I can’t speak highly enough about my stay at the Chateau de Fonscolombe. It was comfortable, quiet, and stylish in a rich, classic way.
Staying at the Château de Fonscolombe
Walking through the doors of the Château de Fonscolombe is like stepping back in time. Despite the rich and deep history of this stunning historical monument, the hotel has been beautifully restored to a point where it’s both beautiful and still very functional.
We arrived late at night, and so checked in and promptly found ourselves fast asleep in their comfortable bedding. The next morning, as the sun rose, I awoke to the clipping-clopping of hoofbeats on the road just past the chateau gates. And if you know the horse lover in me, you know I was hooked from there.
Our room, one of 50 total, was perfectly perched over the front courtyard. It had lovely views of the front gates and surrounding gardens, which would be perfectly suited for a cocktail hour or wedding reception.
With a full day of scouting and preparing for our upcoming wedding shoot, we rose and headed out to run the trails surrounding the property. One of my favorite aspects of Provence is the country setting. And taking a run or a long walk around the property is just another wonderful way to take it in.
Dining at the Château de Fonscolombe
For lunch we visited the 5-star in house—and destination—restaurant L’Orangerie. Choosing from the menu was difficult with so many enticing selections. We settled on salad and pasta, made with local, seasonal vegetables and seafood. As we dined outside under a huge tree canopy, we only wished we had more time to enjoy the gorgeous grounds.
Celebrating at the Château de Fonscolombe
The Château itself has 50 rooms and beautiful decor just asking for a wedding celebration. The property even contains a gorgeous small chapel that would be so fitting for an intimate wedding ceremony or a larger ceremony with guests spilling outdoors.
With the picturesque grounds and breathtakingly beautiful restoration of the castle, I can’t think of a more romantic setting for a Provencal wedding or special celebration. The Château de Fonscolombe is accustomed to accommodating events, and offers a range of settings for any type of occasion.
Overall, the property felt a bit like a hidden gem in the heart of Provence. One perfectly suited for a beautiful destination wedding event or a few days to rest and relax, taking in the best Provence has to offer.

Drawing on years of experience in the fashion and editorial photography industry, my photographs are graceful, honest and boldly natural, while completely intentional. Whether it’s the opportunity to narrate the retelling of once-in-a-lifetime wedding days, or the ability to communicate issues of global importance, or all the stories in between, I look at photography as the method by which I get to leave the world a little better than I found it.
