Twelve years after first crossing paths at a summer camp in Maine, Hutton and Bobby Cooney took their love story to new heights with a proposal during a ski trip to Aspen. Having spent countless cherished weekends together in Charlottesville, Virginia during their long-distance relationship, they had initially pictured tying the knot there. However, they decided to journey back to their roots and began exploring options that would mirror their summer camp beginnings.
Camp Cooney: The Celebration Begins
In homage to their childhood romance that blossomed in a summer camp, the couple chose to host their nuptials at Brush Creek Ranch in Wyoming. This venue’s charm resonated deeply with their love story, inspiring them to transform their western wedding weekend into an immersive 3-day experience they fondly named “Camp Cooney”. From custom-printed bandana save-the-dates, to the bespoke leather and copper-foiled invitations mirroring a Ralph Lauren fabric, every detail of their western wedding bore the unique touch of TPD Design House.
Three Days of Love, Laughter, and Memories
The couple meticulously curated an engaging and memorable western wedding weekend that featured seven events over three days. Classic wedding events merged with unique ranch activities like fishing, horseback riding, and archery, creating a range of festivities for their nearest and dearest to enjoy. From their arrival to departure, guests were immersed in the “Camp Cooney” experience, greeted by staff in custom shirts and luggage tags, and treated to a range of specially curated events.
A Toast to Love: The Rehearsal Dinner
An intimate rehearsal dinner set against the backdrop of mountain and canyon views at Falcons Peak kicked off the celebrations. The dinner was held in an enchanting field where guests savored a unique wine pairing and tasting menu under the sunset skies, serenaded by a pianist playing a baby grand piano in the middle of the field.
Creekside Dinner
Meanwhile, the rest of the guests reveled in Brush Creek Ranch’s infamous Creekside Dinner, partaking in games and a creekside BBQ accompanied by a bluegrass band. The event boasted western-inspired décor, with denim linens and signature Peach Bourbon tea and Ranch Water served in Topo Chico bottles.
Fireside S’mores
The evening drew to a close, with all guests converging at the Trailhead Lodge for a cozy session of s’mores and campfire songs. A guitarist sang campfire songs while guests sang along using custom mini clipboards that displayed the camp song lyrics. The s’mores featured custom marshmallows with the couple’s branding and paper napkins featured a “then and now” photo of Hutton and Bobby—one from when they met at camp and one from when they got engaged in Aspen.
Ranch Olympics
Day two saw the guests competing in Ranch Olympics, testing their skills on the mechanical bull and more, each team identified by custom-printed bandanas.
A Wild Welcome Party
A Western-themed welcome party on Friday night saw the bride, Hutton, making a statement in a Philosophy dress, a suede cape, and custom Miron Crosby boots. The evening was filled with dance, music, a hat branding station, and a touching cigar bar tribute to Hutton’s late father.
A Western Wedding Ceremony and Reception
On their wedding day, Hutton and Bobby blended special moments, custom designs, and memories to last a lifetime. Hutton donned Monique Lhuillier’s feminine ‘Lily of the Valley’ gown—which contrasted beautifully against the rugged Wyoming landscape. Their ceremony was nestled amidst the sagebrush at Brush Creek Ranch on a custom-built platform, ensuring guests a perfect view of the breathtaking Wyoming mountainside. Wildflowers in suede pouches greeted guests, ready to be joyously tossed as the newlyweds ascended the aisle.
Post-ceremony, guests savored cocktails and sweeping views from the courtyard. The reception featured a memorable escort display, a delightful nod to the couple’s camp days with “The Pony Express”—a clothesline system used for note-passing between boys and girls cabins. Large boards covered in a custom paisley print by TPD held leather pouches, each containing a personalized note from Hutton and Bobby along with seating assignments, all affixed with custom clothespins.
Inside, the reception was an affair to remember. Custom linens made from the Ralph Lauren fabric that inspired the stationery design adorned the tables. The tablescape was elevated with TPD’s custom embossed leather placemats bearing the paisley pattern, layered place settings, and custom monogram napkins. Guests dined on Brush Creek’s famous Wagyu Beef or Hutton and Bobby’s favorite dinner, Miso black Cod. Ensuring the party continued, the Georgia Bridgewater Orchestra from Jordan Khan Music kept guests dancing all night long.
An After Party Under the Stars
After the reception, guests changed into their pajamas for an after-party in the cowboy chapel. To honor Bobby’s Chicago upbringing, deep-dish pizzas from Lou Malnati were flown in, while 5-8 club burgers and sweet potato tots paid tribute to Hutton’s Minneapolis roots. DJ Natty Rico from Vegas kept the dance floor packed until 2 in the morning while custom slippers provided welcome relief for tired feet.
The Morning After: The Farewell Brunch
The final day began with a casual ranch brunch, allowing guests to reminisce about their unforgettable weekend. Hutton’s famous hangover remedy and a Bloody Mary bar were sure to rejuvenate the guests, preparing them for their travels back home.
Such a weekend exemplifies the beautiful balance of intricate planning and spontaneous joy, marking the beginning of Hutton and Bobby’s journey together. Their story shows us how two camp friends from the tender age of 12 could navigate through life’s myriad paths and end up where they began—together, inseparable, and infinitely in love.
Their celebration of unity is not just a testament to their shared history, but also a promising beacon of their shared future. It’s a beautiful reminder that love isn’t merely a grand spectacle, but a series of shared moments, experiences, and memories that we cherish and hold close forever.
