The Precursor to Incredible Wedding Photos

Our engagement and pre-wedding sessions serve as important opportunities for us to connect with you prior to your wedding. This is huge! Getting used to being in front of the camera is crucial to the success of your wedding photos. 

That’s why we go out of our way during these engagement and pre-wedding shoots to ensure you’re comfortable. Because when you’re comfortable, you can just be yourselves. And that’s when the real photography magic happens.

How to Create an Editorial-Style Engagement Shoot

PICTURE-PERFECT LOCATIONS

Make it personal… or an adventure (or both)! Choose a location that’s special to you… or a place that intrigues and speaks to you. Somewhere that either stirs fond memories… or maybe just somewhere that inspires you. Like love—you’ll know it when you see it. 

No location is too far, and no adventure is too great. Think outside the box and challenge your imagination. We love fresh, new ideas and are more than willing to rendezvous somewhere off the beaten path in order to create beautiful memories just for you. 

Paris, New York City, Italy, the islands, coastal California … these are just a few of our frequent destinations. But the options really are endless! Be as bold as you want to be for your engagement photos. 

Consider…

– Locations that tell a story or have a special meaning to you
– Natural beauty and the timelessness of breathtaking landscapes
– Exotic or destination locations… why not make a pre-wedding trip of it?

EDITORIAL-STYLE FASHION

One of the most important elements in an engagement session is fashion. Expressing yourselves with a special and coordinated wardrobe brings an editorial look to your images. We like to pair locations with outfits, so please plan to bring two to three options at minimum. Need guidance? We highly recommend working with a stylist that best fits your aesthetic. A fashion stylist can truly capture your personality, elevate your look and bring your photos to a whole new level.

Consider…

– Two to three coordinated looks (at minimum)
– Elevated casual, semi-dressy, or cocktail-inspired looks
– Hiring a bridal stylist

PLAY WITH PROPS

Although not absolutely necessary, props can really enhance and breathe life into a photoshoot. But make sure they relate to your interests as a couple or are meaningful in some way to you and your relationship.

Consider…

– Location-appropriate props 
– Boats, cars, pets, hats… whatever you’re passionate about!

THE HAIR + MAKEUP EDIT

Hair and makeup are just as important as your fashion choices. Having exquisite hair and makeup will ensure you look (and feel) your absolute best. We always recommend you leave this part up to professionals in order to create editorial-style engagement photos. And when you do, you’ll be free to relax and enjoy the session without worrying about cosmetics. Our hair and makeup connections span the globe–simply ask and we’ll send them along!

Overall, a successful editorial-style engagement shoot isn’t that different from a successful wedding photoshoot. If you pick an amazing location and surround yourself with an incredible team (all while being guided by a grand vision)… you’re golden.
